West Ham have been given mixed reviews moving into the upcoming Premier League season.

The Hammers generally struggled under Graham Potter last campaign after he was named as a replacement for Julen Lopetegui.

This eventually saw the London Stadium outfit finish 14th in the table, with 43 points, arguably being lucky with the lack of quality of the relegated sides.

It appears that the newly promoted clubs have better chances of survival, with the potential of relegation for the Irons now being assessed by a supercomputer.

As it stands, the lack of top quality transfer business may pose a concern for many supporters in East London at this stage of the summer.

MORE WEST HAM STORIES

To this point, only El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters and Callum Wilson have been added to Potter’s squad from the market.

The English head coach has also parted ways with Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham, alongside a whole host of contract exits from E20.

As a result, there is little surprise that the Hammers have been predicted to finish closer to the bottom three to the top six for the new season.

This prediction has come from the Opta Supercomputer (6 August), which has mooted a 16th-place finish for West Ham in the Premier League with 44 average points.

Position Team Average points

16. West Ham 44.0

17. Wolves 42.5

18. Burnley 36.9

19. Leeds United 36.3

20. Sunderland 31.5

With that being said, relegation isn’t completely out of the picture, with 22 per cent of simulations seeing the Irons dropping into the Championship.

The prediction sees the claret and blue side finish narrowly ahead of Wolves on 42.5 average points, with the promoted three destined for relegation once again.

West Ham need more new signings

Within the supercomputer’s predictions, the loss of Kudus has been marked as a blow to the Irons’ chances next campaign.

As a result, there is a huge need for the Ghana international to be replaced as the opening day clash against Sunderland awaits.

There has been a general lack of transfer rumours in that area, something which will only pile further pressure on Crysencio Summerville as he returns from a long-term injury.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Potter can get the best out of his side this campaign and whether they can disprove Opta’s prediction.
