A former United starlet is being monitored by several English clubs this summer over a potential move.

Both remain out there, with Lindelof seeing a lack of transfer links as things stand. Meanwhile, Eriksen has been linked with a move to join Championship side Wrexham, and also a return to Holland to play for Ajax.

However, there is also a former Man United academy star left out on the free agent market, who Championship clubs are also looking at. He has been out of action for over a year now following his release from Old Trafford in 2024.

Brandon Williams is generating Championship interest

Former United star Brandon Williams came through the academy at Carrington, he left Old Trafford in June 2024, when his contract expired after having made just 21 Premier League appearances for United.

Williams went on a couple of successful loan moves during his time with United, both to Norwich City in 2021/22 and Ipswich Town in 2023/24. However, since then, his future was plunged into doubt after he was handed a suspended jail sentence in May for dangerous driving.

But it now seems that Williams could be closing in on his next move. According to a report by the Daily Mail, both Championship and overseas clubs are chasing the 24-year-old full-back. The report says that he has impressed during a trial period with Hull City, where he made appearances against Getafe and Sunderland.

But, following his suspended sentence, there remain concerns with clubs about his attitude during his trial with Hull. However, the Tigers are expected to offer him a contract, which could potentially spark other Championship clubs into action to attract the English full-back.

Solskjaer expected Williams to be a “top, top player”

The 24-year-old burst onto the scene at Old Trafford, making his debut for the club in September 2019, in an EFL Cup match against Rochdale. However, just a week later, he made his first start for the Red Devils under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a Europa League match against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.

Solskjaer was very keen on Williams during his time with the Red Devils, as the ex-United boss was quoted in 2019 by The Independent. Solskjaer said: “He’s a top young kid, he’s got great attitude and confidence. He’s got everything a Man United kid should have. You’re never scared of putting Brandon in any type of game.

“The boy has no fear, he is as brave as a lion …The boy is going to be a top, top player.” However, after how Williams’ career has gone in the past couple of years, his next move could be a pivotal one in terms of if he can resurrect his chances of becoming that ‘top, top player’.
