Just in – Barcelona have now decided to strip Ter Stegen’s captaincy

The current situation concerning Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and FC Barcelona is extremely tense. With neither parties willing to budge, both the player and the club remain adamant with their respective stances. However, the Catalan side has now reportedly decided to make a big call.

According to 3Cat, Barça coach Hansi Flick is set to strip Ter Stegen’s captaincy at the club’s request. Due to his currently openly disciplinary case and the whole issue at hand, La Blaugrana does not see him as being fit to be the club’s captain.

Still, Ter Stegen remains adamant about blocking the club’s efforts to send his medical report to La Liga. However, Barça is reportedly trying to find a legal alternative that will allow them to send the player’s report without needing his permission.

Unfortunately, even that might potentially not be enough. After all, La Liga’s Medical Commission will not look at his record until the player provides the necessary consent himself. Thus, all things considered, Barcelona are now in a very bad spot.

Moreover, with the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) now reportedly supporting Ter Stegen as well, there seems to be no easy end to this fiasco. Still, both parties should be behaving better than this, and this petty contest of egos and selfishness is harmful to everyone involved.
