The board at La Liga giants Barcelona are planning to terminate the contract of Oriol Romeu, once the midfielder has found for himself a new home.
That’s according to **[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20250805/1002510701/oriol-romeu-ejemplo-negocia-salida.html)**, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the situation.
Midfielder Romeu finds himself in something of a precarious situation at present.
Following a loan spell on the books of Girona in the 2024/25 season, the former Southampton man has since returned to base in Barcelona, with a year remaining on his contract.
The problem for Romeu, though, is that despite playing a prominent role in pre-season training, he does not feature in the plans of the Blaugrana in any way, shape or form.
The likes of Girona and Valencia have been [credited with an interest](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/oriol-romeu-nuevo-destino-119978788) in bringing the 33-year-old in for next season, though only in the case of Romeu becoming available as a free agent.
And as alluded to above, once any such agreement has been found with another club, Barca are ready to do their part in affording Romeu a straightforward exit.
As per a report from MD:
‘The player has offers that haven’t materialized, but when he reaches an agreement, he will terminate his contract with Barça.’
