Chelsea ‘launch’ bid for Aston Villa star as Newcastle target monster £80m Šeško transfer alternative

The biggest new Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Wolves and more.

Once again, we’ve kept across all of the latest Premier League transfer rumours to keep you up-to-date with our regular round-up and review of all the biggest new stories – and today, we’ve got a bit of a Chelsea theme to all of our stories.

Let’s start with a double story from The Daily Express, who claim that Chelsea have simultaneously “agreed” a deal with Manchester United for Alejandro Garnacho and “launched” a long-awaited bid for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers.

The language appears to be rather hyperbolic when you dig into the meat of the reports, it must be said. Rather than actually agreeing a deal with United for Garnacho, they are in “informal negotiations” with United having apparently lowered their asking price to £45m.

Meanwhile, although Chelsea remain “keen admirers” of Rogers, there’s nothing in this story to suggest that an offer has been made, but they are “in the running” if a deal can be struck. It’s suggested that if Villa make a move for Nicolas Jackson then they will sell the Senegalese striker at a discount to secure a deal for Rogers to come the other way.

The 3AM Verdict: The language in the headlines is way over the top here. No deal for Garnacho has been “agreed”, making us wonder why the Express bother to say that it has when they don’t even try to back it up, but we do believe that it’s likely a deal gets done down the line. As for Rogers, there’s nothing here to suggest that a bid is any closer than it has been all summer, and we suspect that this one doesn’t happen, especially as the impending arrival of Evann Guessand and Villa’s interest in Samu Agehowa makes a move for Jackson far less likely. As you were, really.

Newcastle target £80m striker as Šeško hopes fade

With a number of stories suggesting that Manchester United will win the race to sign Slovenian striker Benjamin Šeško this summer, Newcastle United are looking for (another) alternative – and Fabrizio Romano (via GiveMeSport) reckons that they may have found one.

Chelsea’s Jackson is “one of the players being discussed” internally at St. James’ Park and although there are “more names in the pipeline” they are considering an attempt to get a deal done “over the coming weeks”.

With their chances of landing Šeško looking slim and a bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa said to be “dormant”, Jackson could become the primary target despite a reported asking price of £80m for the forward.

The 3AM Verdict: At this point, we assume that if Newcastle do bid for Jackson then another team will come in and buy him instead. But with options falling away left, right and centre, we do think this isn’t an especially far-fetched story. We can’t imagine that they wouldn’t negotiate the £80m price tag down a bit, however.

Wolves eye unwanted Chelsea star

Our final story of this evening’s round-up also features a Chelsea connection – Caught Offside flesh out a story from Simon Phillips which suggests that Wolverhampton Wanderers are making a “late move” for French defender Axel Disasi.

Disasi is also of interest to Newcastle, Villarreal and Aston Villa, where he spent several months on loan last season, but Wolves are now in the mix as well as they look to sign a “proven and experienced” defender.

The 27-year-old would cost as much as €35m (£30.5m), apparently, with Chelsea keen to offload a defender who has failed to nail down a starting spot at Stamford Bridge. Wolves are now an “increasingly possible destination”, but it doesn’t sound like a formal offer has been made.

The 3AM Verdict: A few outlets are carrying this story, although Phillips seems to be the primary source for most of the reports we’re seeing. That doesn’t mean that it’s untrue, merely uncorroborated for now. A plausible enough story in need of more flesh on the bones before we believe it – there really isn’t much detail in this report.
