If you’ve played fantasy football over the years you likely know who Matthew Berry is.
He was on the ground floor of it, starting his career writing about fantasy football in 1999.
Berry worked full-time at ESPN from 2007-2022 and has been with NBC Sports ever since.
And while he’s known for fantasy sports, when you’ve been around the NFL this long, you’re going to develop relationships throughout the league.
That’s what made his comments on “The Fantasy Football Happy Hour with Matthew Berry” on Wednesday so interesting. In talking about Broncos QB Bo Nix, Berry said something juicy about how the Kansas City Chiefs view Denver.
The short answer? They think the Broncos are a contender. What Matthew Berry had to say, which is starting to gain steam on social media, starts at about the 17:18 mark below.

“I was having a conversation with a very high-ranking Chiefs… somebody in the Chiefs organization is the way I want to phrase it,” Matthew Berry began.
He then says he was asked for his Super Bowl pick and rattled off the “obvious” teams in the AFC like the Chiefs, Bills, Bengals and perhaps even the Chargers. Berry forgot about the Ravens, but that’s when his comments got really interesting.
The “high-ranking” person with the Chiefs got asked who they think are Super Bowl contenders.
“They said, ‘honestly, we’re worried about the Broncos.’ They’re like ‘Bo Nix is for real and that defense is amazing.We think the Broncos are real,'” Berry said. “In their division, they have a lot of respect for the Broncos.”
So, someone who’s well-connected with the Chiefs, told Berry that Kansas City is “worried” about Denver.
That has to be music to head coach Sean Payton’s ears, who’s telling anyone that will listen how great Nix is. Payton also isn’t afraid to talk about the Super Bowl this season for the Broncos.
At the end of the day, Matthew Berry isn’t making these comments up for attention. He clearly heard it from someone important with Kansas City.
Let’s call it like is: the Broncos are firmly on the Chiefs radar.
