Arsenal make U-turn on the future of 25-year-old utility man

Arsenal could offer Jakub Kiwor a new deal if the 25-year-old utility man ends up staying at the club beyond the summer window.

According to TBR, Arsenal may offer Jakub Kiwior a new deal if the defender ends up staying at the club beyond the summer window. The Polish centre-back is largely seen as a backup to Gabriel Magalhaes, and has decent interest from other clubs, but Mikel Arteta may want to keep him on board for the time being.

Jakub Kiwior looked down and out from this Arsenal side last season before he stepped in for the injured Gabriel Magalhaes. With the latter mostly keeping his fitness intact since the time the Polish centre-back arrived in January 2023, he did make his mark when given the chance.

His prominent performances came against Real Madrid in the Champions League last season as he successfully deputised for the Brazilian following his season-ending injury. Arsenal have since changed their stance on the 25-year-old utility man, given they were open to selling him.

Recently, Arsenal stepped up their interest in Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, which probably indicated that Kiwior might leave. However, the club may have different plans now, given that the French defender may not be available for a transfer this summer.

For now, Arsenal are unwilling to sell the Polish defender, and could even offer him a new deal if he ends up staying at the club beyond the summer window. As the season is about to begin and Gabriel is fit again, the Polish star is expected to take his place as his deputy.

Could Arsenal’s stance on Jakub Kiwior change?

Arsenal are likely to keep Kiwior at the club to maintain momentum and squad balance, as he does provide the right cover for Gabriel. They also turned down an approach from FC Porto, which may have been significantly below their valuation of the 25-year-old defender.

However, should the right offer arrive before the deadline, and if Arteta feels the defensive setup has the right cover to contain his absence, they might consider selling Kiwior. As things stand, the defender could stay and earn himself a new deal to prolong his career with Arsenal.
