Liverpool shortlist new winger as potential Diaz successor

Liverpool are eyeing a PSG forward as Luis Diaz’s replacement, but the asking price might make the deal difficult for the Reds.

Luis Diaz left Anfield last week, but the transfer story is quite interesting. The 28-year-old was reportedly unhappy with the Merseyside club, as he might have expected a pay rise after his performances last season. Following that, he started considering a move this summer and began exploring options for his future.

FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich were the two clubs interested in him, but the Spanish giants decided to back off as they didn’t want to spend the amount Liverpool were asking for.

That left Bayern Munich as the clear favourites. Despite the Premier League champions rejecting Bayern’s first approach, the German club came back strongly and eventually paid €75m to the Reds for the Colombian winger.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot also spoke about Diaz’s replacement. The Dutch mastermind said: “You always need to replace them with quality. Sometimes quality can be in different positions.”

He added: “We have more than a few players who can play in a number of positions. At this moment in time, we still have Gakpo, Rio is showing very good signs and I think Wirtz can play from the left side as well.”

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are considering Bradley Barcola. The club might have identified him as a perfect choice for the left-wing role. The Reds see him as a world-class talent, but there are no bids or talks at this stage, as the focus currently remains on Isak.

However, the Champions League winners might demand at least €100m for the Frenchman. That amount could be difficult for Liverpool to spend this summer.

PSG, on the other hand, want to keep Barcola and are preparing to offer him a new deal. Al-Khelaifi, Luis Campos — who signed him — and Luis Enrique are all aligned on keeping the winger in Paris.
