Chelsea are preparing for the start of the new 2025/26 Premier League season

Chelsea have the chance to bring in some new faces before the end of the transfer window. They also have the opportunity to let some more players head out the exit door as well before the deadline. The Blues have until Monday 1st September to complete any incoming or outgoing bits of business.

Enzo Maresca has done an impressive job since his move to Stamford Bridge. Prior to his switch, the ex-Manchester City coach caught the eye at Leicester City and won the Championship title with the Foxes. He guided his current club to the Europa Conference League trophy last season.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson update emerges

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has emerged as a ‘serious option’ for Newcastle United, according to The Telegraph. The report adds that the London club are ‘open’ to selling the player following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. He could be seen by Eddie Howe as an alternative to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who is said to be favouring a switch to Manchester United at this stage, Sky Sports claim.

Jackson, 24, joined back in 2023 to boost the Blues’ attacking department. He has since made 81 appearances altogether and has fired 30 goals, 13 of which came in the last campaign. The attacker gives Maresca more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. However, they may not be able to offer him regular minutes anymore.

Prior to his move to England, the Senegal international caught the eye at Villarreal. Newcastle could see him as someone to bolster their options at the top end of the pitch. They would be able to offer him Champions League football after they finished in the top five last term.

What now for Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea?

Chelsea have a big decision to make on what to do with Jackson. If Newcastle come in with an offer that matches his price tag, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave. He still has a few years left on his contract but may be deemed surplus to requirements now.

Aston Villa have also been mentioned as a potential suitor over recent times. He knows their manager Unai Emery already from their time at Villarreal together. It remains to be seen at this stage whether the Midlands side will make a bid though. Villa are in the hunt for additions as they gear up for life in the Europa League.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider last month: “Unai Emery remains a big fan of Nicolas Jackson, so it’s no surprise that Villa are in the market for him. We know Villa need reinforcements in attack – they still haven’t really replaced Jhon Duran – and Jackson’s future’s is up in the air at Chelsea as well. If he does become available before the end of the window, there’s no doubt that Aston Villa will be one of those clubs ready to make a move for him, because Unai Emery is a huge fan of his.”
