Harvey Elliott could find himself at a new club before the end of the summer transfer window, with German team RB Leipzig opening talks to see what it would take to prise him away from Liverpool. The 22 year-old put himself in the shop window earlier this summer with a starring role in the England U-21s, winning the trophy and earning a player of the tournament honour.

After being given a lack of first-team opportunities during Arne Slot's maiden, title-winning campaign with Liverpool, clubs have been alerted to his potential availability, and Leipzig have joined the pack. The Bundesliga outfit reportedly view him as a replacement for Xavi Simons, who is close to a switch to Chelsea.

Elliott has been open about his status at Liverpool, telling The Anfield Wrap while on tour in Asia: "If I had it my way I would be here for the rest of my career, it's as simple as that.

"I love everything about the club, but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what's best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to get in the World Cup squad. I want to keep being successful as a player. It's something I still need to review."

But some fans in the Liverpool Echo comments section have instructed Arne Slot to resist the temptation to sell in order to fund a potential move for Alexander Isak. Reader RobbieWilliams says: "Bit odd this, we sell Quansah yet we are short of CBs, now Elliott looks like he is going. Both young lads with huge potential. Can see this coming back to bite us. If you go Harvey, good luck son, in my opinion you never got a fair crack of the whip under Slot."

Commenter Livfan worries it's too much change, all at once: "This is a case of dismantling completely a winning team, by offloading all the proven talents and spend many millions on players that are still in the process to prove themselves."

Darwinism writes: "Elliott is a great player, he's a known variable. We hope the new guys are brilliant, like we hoped Chiesa would be brilliant, but it's Elliott that came on and got the winner in Paris when everyone else was struggling to find the net. It's a known base level we can fall back to if the new guys disappoint."

For others, offloading Elliott is all a part of the natural cycle. Poppy16 says: "Team needed refreshing, that’s what we done. Everyone was moaning last year at the lack of transfers, now they're moaning it's too many. Elliott is a great great player and hopefully Liverpool put in a buyback clause.

"We need centre-half before season starts, that position is a priority. Isak would be a bonus on our already excellent buys."

Cyclingcylon writes: "Harvey, forget international football. Club football is where it's at. Give it to January to see how much game time you get. Leaving Liverpool will be a step down and one you'll regret. You have years ahead of you."
