Following the final open practice of Arizona Cardinals training camp, Kyler Murray said this is one of the best camps he’s been a part of.
“It’s been great. It’s been really good,” Murray told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Wednesday. “This is, I’ll say, as far as all my camps that I’ve been a part of, this has got to be up there. Just I mean, ball’s coming out great, (I’m) seeing the field well. Not only that though, (but) it’s not one-sided. You know, we’re going back and forth.”
Even though the Cardinals did not seek major upgrades to any of their offensive groups and made reinforcing their defense the top priority during the draft and free agency, Murray said it’s been the offense that has been winning camp up to this point.
But as good as the offense has been, Murray said the defense has stepped up as well.
He said there was one day where the offense got their “ass kicked.”
“That’s almost necessary sometimes,” Murray said. “You’re feeling yourself. You’re feeling too good. You gotta recalibrate. You gotta come back down and do the little things every time.”
Murray enters Year 7 coming off a season where he totaled 3,851 passing yards, 26 total touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 68.8% completion percentage. He added 572 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 78 carries.
Will Kyler Murray play in the preseason?
While Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed he is planning to play the starters in Saturday’s preseason opener against Kansas City, the question remains how much Murray will play?
If Murray does play in the preseason, it would be the first time since 2021.
“I just do whatever (Gannon) says,” Murray said. “I mean, last year I didn’t play (in the preseason). The year before that I was rehabbing, and I didn’t play until (Week 10). To me, man, roll the ball out there and go play. Like that’s how I feel about it … but either way, it makes no difference for me.”
