Manchester United’s striker department looks set to be headlined by Benjamin Sesko from the 2025/26 and onwards.
Ruben Amorim will be very excited by the latest developments around Manchester United’s transfer pursuit of a striker.
Last season, Amorim defeatedly declared that United cannot score goals, highlighting the lack of final third quality as an area of concern after drawing blank once again.
Manchester United top scorers 2024/25 in all competitions
Bruno Fernandes – 19
Amad Diallo – 11
Alejandro Garnacho – 11
Rasmus Hojlund – 10
Joshua Zirkzee – 7
After such a low scoring campaign, with 44 total Premier League goals in 38 games, it is hardly a shock that Amorim and the United recruitment staff wanted the attack to be reinforced this summer.
Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were an excellent start and now Benjamin Sesko is set to become United’s new starting striker, and he could solve Amorim’s biggest frustration.

Benjamin Sesko is an incredibly clinical striker compared to Europe’s elite
Amorim criticised his team’s poor finishing in front of goal as one reason that United underwent such appalling form.
Hojlund had a shot to goal conversion rate of just 12 per cent, while Garnacho scored roughly seven per cent of his shots.

These statistics need to improve and with Sesko leading the line it absolutely should, according to data presented by Statman Dave, as the data analyst revealed that over the past two seasons, Sesko has averaged 0.22 goals per shot.
Over the last two league seasons, Benjamin Šeško has averaged 0.22 goals per shot. That’s a better rate than…
🇸🇪 Alexander Isak (0.21)
🏴 Harry Kane (0.20)
🇳🇴 Erling Haaland (0.18)
🇫🇷 Kylian Mbappé (0.17)
🏴 Ollie Watkins (0.17)

To put into perspective, this is a better scoring rate than several of Europe’s elite goalscorers.
Alexander Isak – 0.21 per shot
Harry Kane – 0.20 per shot
Erling Haaland – 0.18 per shot
Kylian Mbappe – 0.17 per shot
Ollie Watkins – 0.17 per shot
Mohamed Salah – 0.14 per shot
Sesko is amongst elite company and this will only improve as he develops at United, while playing with better attacking teammates will only help him to improve, with the more shots he gets likely to correlate with more goals.
Sesko was once considered a better prospect than Haaland and now it will be Amorim’s task to ensure he reaches these levels.
According to the Premier League website, Sesko overachieved his expected goals last season by 6.3, which is more than any other Bundesliga player, and it is easy to see why when he scores goals like that trivela against Bayern Munich.
Sesko can fix Manchester United’s lack of goals under Ruben Amorim’s system
Sesko’s scoring for Leipzig on the surface is not that impressive, however, his rate of scoring despite playing further from goal and getting less opportunities is impressive.
Under Amorim this summer, United have clearly been trying use the striker as much as possible, which shows Sesko will be heavily involved in whatever United do this coming season.
If Sesko gets opportunities, he will score, it will be as simple as that, and therefore the impressive attacking performances on show during pre-season are encouraging as they demonstrate the improvements and that plenty of chances are being created.
Sesko is a one of one profile physically, able to run in behind and wins a lot of aerial duels.
The Slovenian needs his teammates to create chances for him though, as without them it will be difficult to see how he ends up a successful signing.

Sesko scored 21 goals last season as SofaScore shows, while he also evolved as a creator and in his hold up play over the past 12 months which is as beneficial as his goals considering this was non existent from Hojlund.
Goals were the aim of this summer and Sesko ticks a lot of the boxes to accomplishing this if he is able to continue evolving and growing as a player.
