Report: Liverpool made two offers to sign £48m Premier League star but club thought they were both 'insulting'

Liverpool have been incredible in this summer’s transfer window.

The Reds won the Premier League title last season, and instead of resting on their laurels, they have gone big on several players.

Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike have all arrived already, but Arne Slot wants more players before the window shuts.

Alexander Isak is one of them, but there is another Premier League player Liverpool have tried to sign in recent weeks.

Liverpool told their two offers for Marc Guehi were ‘insulting’

Marc Guehi is one to watch in the final weeks of this summer’s transfer window.

The England international has entered the last year of his contract at Crystal Palace, and it is very unlikely that he will pen an extension.

Liverpool have been interested in Guehi for a long time, but the defender has admirers across the Premier League as well.

TBR revealed that Newcastle still remain interested in Guehi, but it is the Reds who are said to have made some moves to land him.

Foot Mercato have claimed that Liverpool made two offers to Crystal Palace to sign Guehi, but both those bids were deemed ‘insulting’ by Oliver Glasner’s side.

The Eagles are demanding €55 million (£48m) for their star defender, but the report says that Liverpool are not prepared to go that high.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle or any other club will get close to Crystal Palace’s demands to land the defender before the window closes on the first day of September.

Liverpool should use Real Madrid’s trick to sign Marc Guehi

Real Madrid have been the masters of signing players on free transfers recently.

The Galacticos have brought in Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Kylian Mbappe and most recently, Trent Alexander-Arnold, at the end of their contracts, which has been a very effective business model.

Liverpool fans were furious when they lost Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, but their club could now use the same tactic to land Guehi.

Paying £48 million for a player who will be available for nothing in less than 12 months’ time doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Liverpool should just let Guehi run his contract down and pounce next summer, when he will be available to sign on a free transfer.
