Jurgen Klopp is about to do Liverpool a huge favour in their pursuit of Alexander Isak

Liverpool’s attempts to sign Alexander Isak could soon be made possible by a man still revered at Anfield. The Reds have already had a £110million bid, plus add-ons, rejected by Newcastle, who are trying to hold out for a huge £150m fee.

That would make Isak, 25, the third most expensive footballer in the game's history. Since their offer was turned down, the Reds have raised further funds with the £15m sale of Tyler Morton to Lyon, while Darwin Nunez is reportedly on the brink of a move to Al-Hilal. However, it’s the intentions of former boss Jurgen Klopp that will now be music to the ears of club chiefs.

According to Bild, RB Leipzig are now lining up a bid for Harvey Elliott. In January, Klopp began a new role as the Red Bull Head of Global Soccer, with the Bundesliga club one team under his remit.

The sale of the England Under-21 international could well pave the way for the Premier League champions to meet Newcastle’s demands. His stock is currently high after starring as the young Three Lions won the European Championships this summer.

The German boss is said to be pushing for the pursuit of the 22-year-old. Klopp gave Elliott his Liverpool debut after signing him from Fulham in 2019, and the forward made 119 more appearances for him before he departed at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Indeed, before leaving Klopp admitted that he should have given the player more game time that season, saying: “If I regret one thing a little bit, it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough.

“Because in a very important, intense period - January, a lot of injuries – he played really good. He was probably our best player, right wing, right midfield, all these kinds of things. Everybody came back, and he had minutes here, minutes there, and he didn’t start anymore.”

Liverpool are said to want a fee in the region of £40m for Elliott. Leipzig will likely fund any move with the sale of Xavi Simons, who has been in negotiations with Chelsea before an expected £61m move.
