Man United are now eyeing two standout names from the Portuguese league as Sesko alternatives.
United eyeing Sesko alternatives
Newcastle and Manchester United are pushing hard to wrap up deal for Benjamin Sesko. As per, the Red Devils are being forced to explore other targets as well.
Head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to build a sharper attack this time. He has turned his attention back to familiar territory, Portugal. One of the names now on Utd’s radar is Porto’s powerful striker Samu Aghehowa.
The Spaniard, born to Nigerian parents, bagged 27 goals in his debut season for Porto. He has caught the eye with two goals against Man Utd in a Europa League draw. Standing at 6ft 4in, Samu’s physical style similar to that of Sesko.
That said, it makes him a strong option. But it won’t be cheap, Porto will be asking for near £70m. United would need to buy out the full rights to comply with PL and FA rules. While Chelsea and Newcastle have shown interest before.
But, United are now seriously considering a move for the forward. That is especially with Sesko’s future looking unclear at the moment.
Pavlidis offers experience and value from Benfica
Another name being closely tracked is Evangelos Pavlidis. He is the Greek international currently leading the line at Benfica. At 26, Pavlidis is in his prime and offers both European experience and a lower price tag compared to Samu.
He’s fresh off a 28-goal campaign, including a stunning UCL hat-trick against Barcelona in a dramatic 5-4 loss. Since arriving in Lisbon for £17 million, he’s proven to be a lethal finisher on big nights. Benfica are open to selling, but only for around £52m. That is a fee United may consider reasonable given his output and experience.
The Greek striker brings a different style from Samu. He is more technical and clever in the box. But, both are serious options to step into Old Trafford if the Sesko chase goes south.
