Newcastle United player set for exit as medical takes place

Newcastle United have agreed to sell the long-serving goalkeeper to another Premier League.

Martin Dubravka is set to leave Newcastle United following seven-and-a-half years at the club.

The Slovakian joined the Magpies in January 2018 from Sparta Prague, initially on loan, before completing a permanent move in the following summer after helping Rafa Benitez’s side retain their Premier League status.

Dubravka spent four full seasons at the Magpies’ number one. Nick Pope’s arrival in the summer of 2022 prompted Dubravka to join Manchester United on loan but after making just two appearances return to Tyneside in the January.

Since then, Dubravka has played back up to Pope but injuries to the England international have seen deputise more than expected. The 36-year-old was set to join Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab in January but was instead rewarded with a new contract after the Magpies climb the Premier League table and reach the Carabao Cup final.

Martin Dubravka undergoes medical at Burnley

Burnley have ben seeking a replacement for James Trafford, who the Magpies long attempted to sign before the Cumbrian re-joined Manchester City for £27million.

Newcastle were close to agreeing fee for Trafford pre-Club World Cup when Man City did not show interest. However, once the Citizens came to the table, it was essentially game over for United.

Eddie Howe’s side went on to agree a fee for Trafford and there was a whisper that Dubravka would be part of the arrangement, but the deal was called off when Man City exercised a clause to match Newcastle’s offer.

The Clarets have continued to hold talks over a separate transfer for Dubravka and as broken by Sky Sports News, an agreement has been reached for the goalkeeper to move to Turf Moor on a permanent basis.

Dubravka underwent his medical on Wednesday afternoon with a deal due to be announced in due course.

Odysseas Vlachodimos also allowed to leave Newcastle United

Newcastle are also working on a loan move for Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.

Vlachodimos joined the Magpies from Nottingham Forest last summer for a reported £20million with Elliot Anderson heading the opposite direction for £35m in an agreement that saw both clubs comply with Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

But for Vlachodimos, the switch to Tyneside has been a difficult one. The 31-year-old’s substitute appearances in the 1-0 Carabao Cup win over AFC Wimbledon last October is his only competitive appearance, while he was named in the matchday squad on just 14 occasions last season.

NewcastleWorld has learned that Newcastle are actively pursuing a loan exit for Vlachodimos, having put feelers out to intermediaries in an attempt to sort the former Benfica man a move.

In an ideal world, the Magpies would prefer the player to leave on a permanent deal, but that is widely accepted to be near impossible for at least the next few windows.

Newcastle are being forced to loan out Vlachodimos opposed to selling him due to the huge transfer fee they paid for him last summer. Unless they are able to recoup a significant fee for Vlachodimos, any sale would go down as a significant PSR loss on the books.
