Everything you need to know about the 2025 Community Shield clash between Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
This game is somewhere between a friendly and a competitive game typically, given it comes a week before the start of the new season, but at the very least it will serve as a good marker of where Oliver Glasner’s men are ahead of the new campaign. Here we round up everything you need to know about the fixture as Palace fans prepare to converge on Wembley for the third time in four months.
When is the 2025 Community Shield?
The 2025 Community Shield fixture will see FA Cup winners Crystal Palace and Premier League champions Liverpool face off on Sunday, August 10 at Wembley Stadium. The fixture will kick off at 3pm UK time.
It’s worth remembering that this game cannot go to extra-time, and a straight penalty shootout will ensue in the event of a draw.
Is the 2025 Community Shield on TV? Is there a live stream?
The 2025 Community Shield between Crystal Palace and Liverpool will be shown on TNT Sports. The fixture has been shown by ITV in the past, but the free-to-air channel lost the rights this season. Coverage on TNT Sports 1 will begin at 2pm on the day of the game, concluding at 6pm.
In terms of a live stream, subscribers can tune in through the TNT Sports and Discovery Plus apps.
What Oliver Glasner has said
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has said when speaking about this fixture: “We are facing the champions. A team who invested £300m, buying high-quality players. It is a great challenge. We will be ready. I don't expect they will be in the best possible shape, the same with us at the beginning of the season. We will go for winning the next trophy. When you have the chance to win a second trophy in three months, go for it."
On his side’s pre-season preparations, Glasner added: “I think we have one or two other players who are close to being in the starting XI, who deserve it. But I think that was pretty much the line-up from the FA Cup final against [Manchester] City.
“The guys are in top shape; they obviously know the drills. That makes it easy. Now it's just a matter of getting match-fit. That's why they needed 90 minutes of exercise in their legs. We actually had another friendly match planned… but now we have a Community Shield against Liverpool instead! But of course, we’re happy to take that. You could say it could be worse! We’ve had a long time to train together this year. There were no major events this year, apart from the Gold Cup – Chris Richards played in the final for the USA – so we’ve really had good time to prepare together.”
What Arne Slot has said
Liverpool boss Arne Slot said after his side’s last friendly: "The other games in preseason, we have conceded a few too many chances, but today we hardly conceded anything at all, and that pleased me as well. So to concede two set-piece goals in the second game is not what you want, especially if you play Crystal Palace next week, who are a team that are very strong on set pieces. That's another thing to work on. We've worked on that already but will work on that even more in the upcoming week."
