Fabrizio Romano gives major update on Luis Diaz replacement

Liverpool remain active in the market for a Luis Diaz replacement, with Fabrizio Romano providing a key update on their next steps.

Liverpool’s summer window took a major turn with the departure of Luis Diaz, who completed a move to Bayern Munich in late July.

The Colombian winger had been a key part of the Reds’ attack since joining from Porto in 2022, but his exit — for a reported fee of around €70.00 m — left a clear gap in Arne Slot’s forward line heading into the new season.

In the days following the transfer, reports emerged linking Liverpool to several high-profile wide players as potential replacements.

Among the most notable claims came from journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who reported that Liverpool were preparing a concrete offer for Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain.

According to Tavolieri, the club was “very determined” to act on their interest, and the proposed deal would not come cheap, with PSG valuing the player at over £87 million (€100 million).

Romano update on Bradley Barcola and Liverpool transfer plans

While Liverpool were previously linked with a move for Bradley Barcola, Fabrizio Romano’s latest update has provided a more measured picture of the club’s current stance.

“Liverpool consider Bradley Barcola as a world-class player but no bid or talks at this stage — focus remains on Isak now. PSG want to keep Barcola and offer him a new deal. Al Khelaifi, Luis Campos who signed him and Luis Enrique are all aligned.”

Romano notes that Barcola is admired internally, but remains a secondary option.

The club’s priority continues to be Alexander Isak, and only if that deal becomes unworkable might Liverpool explore alternatives.

From PSG’s side, their position is firm. The French club want to extend Barcola’s contract, and key decision-makers across the board are backing that plan.

Unless circumstances change significantly, Liverpool are not expected to make a move at this stage.
