Aston Villa optimistic of keeping player – Tell Spanish sources exit ‘would be surprising’

Emiliano Martínez appeared to send an emotional goodbye to Aston Villa fans after their final home game of last season.

Since then, the Argentine press have repeatedly insisted the 32-year-old wants to leave this summer. Back in May, Aston Villa, via Marca, made it clear they were annoyed by claims their goalkeeper was leaving.

The Argentina international is still at Aston Villa and a fresh report from Marca now covers the latest on his situation. Martínez has been a regular and a key player for both club and country since arriving at Villa Park, and it’s claimed the Villans understand his desire to seek a new challenge.

He’s featured in pre-season friendlies amid rumours surrounding his future.

The Premier League club haven’t received a convincing offer for the World Cup winner so far. Manchester United made a loan approach, and the terms proposed didn’t satisfy Unai Emery’s side.

Martínez’s contract expires in 2028 and he’s one of the highest earners and most senior players at Villa Park. Taking these factors into account, the Spanish newspaper says it ‘would be surprising’ if the South American were to leave at this stage of the window.

Marca makes it clear this in their own information, which could suggest it’s been leaked by Monchi, Damian Vidagany or Unai Emery. Monchi has excellent relations with the Spanish media and speaks to them often.
