Whilst Viktor Gyokeres has already enjoyed some promising moments in an Arsenal shirt, it’s clear that the Swede will need some adaptation time at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side have played without a traditional number nine for so long, and changes will have to be made to get the best out of Gyokeres.
The former Sporting CP striker will score goals for Arsenal irrespective of how Arteta’s team plays, but a slow and methodical approach won’t benefit the striker.
And in that regard, Noni Madueke might actually help Gyokeres succeed at Arsenal, on the proviso that Arteta uses his new signing on the left of his attack, rather than the right.
Arsenal’s left wing role remains a slight issue right now, and Gabriel Martinelli’s struggles in the Gunners’ 3-2 defeat to Villarreal in their penultimate pre-season friendly underlined why Andrea Berta is still in the market for a new addition.
Arsenal ready to sign Eberechi Eze as they change their approach
That being said, The Times are now reporting that Arteta wants to add a direct winger to his squad before the window ends.
Interestingly, the report highlights that Arsenal have been noticeably more direct in their pre-season outings this summer, a change that might be intended to get the best out of Gyokeres.
And as a result, Arsenal are planning to approach Crystal Palace about a deal for Eberechi Eze.

Eze isn’t a left winger first and foremost, but the £60m-rated forward is able to thrive in several roles, hence why he could be the missing piece for Arteta.
And in addition to Eze, the report states that Arsenal are still waiting for Rodrygo’s future to unfold at Real Madrid.
TBR Football revealed earlier in the summer that Arsenal would love to sign Rodrygo, but it remains to be seen if the Brazilian will choose to leave Xabi Alonso’s side.
Martin Zubimendi might be crucial to Arsenal’s transformation
Following his move from Real Sociedad earlier in the summer, it’s clear that Martin Zubimendi will have a big influence on Arsenal’s trajectory this season.
Arsenal are seemingly aiming to be more direct in their approach as stated, and Zubimendi will be crucial to those efforts.
Although he’s a deep-lying number six, Zubimendi’s game is far from ponderous – he often drives with the ball and is constantly looking to progress play.
There will seemingly be several subtle changes to how Arteta’s side approach games next season, and that’s not just to get the best out of Gyokeres, who promises to score goals in N5 regardless.
And if Berta is able to sign Eze in the coming weeks then Arteta will be firmly in the ‘no excuses’ territory – the kind of pressure the Spaniard will enjoy.
