Florentino Perez delivered nine glowing words about Brazilian legend Ronaldo regarding reported Rangers target Karl Hein.
However, he was swiftly reminded by the Real Valladolid owner that any potential signing would need to be negotiated through Arsenal.
Russell Martin seems to be searching for a new goalkeeper to challenge Jack Butland and Liam Kelly, with Estonian shot-stopper Hein, who excelled during his loan spell at Valladolid last season, emerging as the latest candidate.
Hein progressed through Arsenal's academy system and has featured just once for the senior squad.
That solitary appearance came three years ago, and now, as the 23-year-old approaches the final year of his deal, it seems his destiny lies away from North London, reports the Daily Record.
He has already earned 39 international caps but last season marked a significant breakthrough at club level for Hein.
It represented his debut campaign playing consistently in one of Europe's top five divisions, and whilst it proved challenging for the relegated Valladolid side, Hein certainly impressed observers – particularly Real Madrid president Perez.
According to Defensa Central, Hein's display during a 3-0 loss to Real Madrid in August prompted Perez to speak with Ronaldo, who acquired a controlling interest in the Spanish outfit in 2018.
Reports suggest he commented: "He's got a good build, a very good goalkeeper," before Ronaldo acknowledged the situation and pointed out he was merely on loan from Arsenal – meaning any discussions would need to involve the Premier League side. Hein's performances have caught the attention of Sevilla, who are eager to keep him in Spain's top league for another season, but his future remains uncertain.
Butland has been Martin's unchallenged first choice so far, but the introduction of a new goalkeeper could stir things up.
