Leeds United have been pushing to sign Mehdi Taremi in the last few weeks.

The frontman has fallen out of favour at Inter Milan and has seemingly been moving towards an exit this summer, with several Premier League sides thought to be keen on him.

Leeds have been one of the interested parties for Taremi, and have previously made an approach to bring the Iranian to England.

Daniel Farke’s side are in desperate need of further additions to their attacking ranks before the season gets underway, and they could now be on the verge of securing the signing that they need.

Taremi absent at Inter as Leeds launch new offensive

Leeds have been chasing Taremi for a little while now, and they have now launched a fresh offenensive as they try and secure a deal to bring the striker to Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire outfit are understood to have launched a fresh approach to sign the 33-year-old on Wednesday (6 August), according to the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport (7 August, pg. 8).

The Italian newspaper have also noted that Taremi has been absent from Inter’s Appiano training base, and could potentially never return.

It is seen as an inevitability that he will depart the Italian giants this summer, although it is thought that there are no guarantees that they will be able to collect any sort of significant fee for the veteran.

Taremi has already rejected offers of a move to Brazil, and with Leeds having now launched a fresh enquiry, they may be able to get a deal done for a cut-price fee.

Signing Taremi would be a big gamble

Signing Taremi would be a sizeable gamble for Leeds, given his age and his recent record in front of goal.

The striker was prolific in the Portuguese top flight during his four-year stint with Porto, but he struggled to make the step up in level to Serie A last term.

Taremi scored 91 goals for Porto across his four years with the club

He failed to make an impact at Inter, starting just seven league games last year

Taremi has played just one season in one of Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues

He found the back of the net just once in 26 league outings, and that should be a major red flag to the Whites that must be considered before they continue their chase.

Farke’s team are crying out for a proven goalscorer at the top level, and unfortunately, Taremi cannot be classed as that.

He has played just one season in one of Europe’s ‘big five’ leagues, and at the age of 33, it is unlikely that he will suddenly discover a new level to his game that has been unseen so far.

After failing to make a big impact at the San Siro in 2024/25, there is little so suggest that the story would be any different at Elland Road.
