'I need to': Wolves star admits he's slightly unsure about his knee just over a week before Man …

Many Wolves fans would love to see Yerson Mosquera bounce back from his knee injury in 2025/26.

The Colombia international was sadly robbed of most of last season, after he sustained ACL and MCL damage in a game against Aston Villa back in September.

It was a hugely unfortunate moment for Yerson Mosquera, who had enjoyed good loan spells with FC Cincinnati and then Villarreal.

He came back to Wolves and had an immediate show of faith from Gary O’Neil and in those first games, he was one of the shining lights in the team.

But Mosquera then suffered his injury, and did not play again for the rest of the season. In total, he played just seven times.

But Mosquera is back in the picture now having gotten his first pre-season minutes against Girona last weekend.

However, Mosquera has dropped an important update about his recovery.

Yerson Mosquera suggests he’s not fully confident in his knee just yet

Plenty of Wolves fans have already talked up a backline of Toti Gomes, Emmanuel Agbadou and Mosquera.

Certainly, that is a trio that could really strike fear into opposition forwards, with all three aggressive and athletic, but able to play as well.

But while Mosquera is now an option again for Vitor Pereira, it might be a little while until we see him break into the starting XI.

Because Mosquera has suggested he is still building confidence in his knee after his injury.

He told the E&S: “I need to work a little bit more for my knee to be more confident. I will be doing this.

“I think it’s really important how you feel mentally.

“That’s the most important thing because you can recover with the knee, but if you’re not good in your mind, you are dead.

“For me, it’s really good because everyone has helped me. When I come on, everyone brings me the confidence to play again.

“Everyone believes in me and they know how I work, how I do everything in training.

“The mentality is the most important thing, I think, because if you are strong in the mind, everything is OK.”

Matt Doherty set to start season for Wolves

Given this suggestion by Mosquera, it seems highly likely that Matt Doherty will be starting the season on the right of Wolves’ back three, just as he finished last term.

Doherty adapted surprisingly well to that role, and supported Agbadou and Nelson Semedo well.

Doherty is a player Pereira likes, having previously praised his personality, so the 33-year-old is surely going to start that first game against City.

So the onus will be on Mosquera to displace him.

He may have to be a little patient. But fans know Mosquera has very exciting potential and will not bet against him being a substitute for long.

The hope is just that he can stay fit this season, having been so unlucky during his time at Wolves so far.
