Darwin Nunez has been given permission to travel and complete his move to Al-Hilal.
The move represents the culmination of intensive negotiations between Liverpool and the Saudi Arabian club, with both parties reaching a verbal agreement worth €53 million (£46.2 million) plus substantial add-ons that could see the total package rise to €65 million (£56.6 million).
The deal marks a significant moment for the Saudi Pro League, as they secure a player in his prime years from the reigning Premier League champion
He will sign a 3-year deal and is set to earn up to £400k per week.
Al-Hilal manager Simone Inzaghi has been instrumental in convincing Nunez to make the move to the Middle East, with the former Inter Milan boss identifying the striker as a priority target for the Saudi club’s ambitious project.
The move would see Nunez join a squad that already boasts Portuguese internationals Ruben Neves and Joao Cancelo, Senegalese captain Kalidou Koulibaly, and former Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
Now Ben Jacobs has reported that Nunez is travelling to complete the deal today and will say goodbye to his teammates today:
“Darwin Nunez has been given permission to travel to Germany for his Al-Hilal medical. He will say his goodbyes today at AXA.”
For Liverpool, the sale of Nunez represents a necessary piece of business as they look to reshape their attacking options under Arne Slot.
The Uruguayan’s departure would be the latest in a series of significant outgoings from the Premier League champions, following the exits of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhín Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, and Luis Diaz since the end of last season.
