Brighton prefer UK loan than selling player – Loan rules makes deal difficult for suitors

Brighton and Hove Albion would prefer to loan Facundo Buonanotte somewhere in the UK this summer, rather than sending him to Borussia Dortmund.

That’s according to Sky Germany, who report that while Dortmund are preparing an offer for the winger.

They say that Dortmund and Brighton are not yet in direct negotiations regarding the Argentine and Brighton are not keen on a sale anyway.

The Seagulls actually see Buonanotte in their long-term plans and so would prefer to loan him this summer. He spent last season on loan at Leicester City.

Dortmund would consider a loan deal and would also be willing to include a purchase option in that deal, value at around €25m.

Brighton would be leaning more towards loaning the player within the UK. That is because of the overseas loan rule which means English clubs can only loan a minimum of six players to non-UK countries.

It seems they would prefer to keep their options open for other players in the squad than sanction a loan deal outside the UK this summer.

Perhaps Dortmund can talk them around on that front, but for now any effort for Buonanotte may be in vain.
