Dagny Brynjarsdottir has officially left West Ham United following the expiration of her contract.

The 33-year-old Icelandic midfielder made 87 appearances over four-and-a-half years, becoming the Club’s fourth-highest WSL appearance maker and serving as captain during her time.

"Wearing the famous claret and blue has been the greatest honour of my life and something, as a little girl growing up in Iceland supporting West Ham, is something I could only dream about doing," Brynjarsdottir told West Ham's website.

"Now that this chapter has now come to a close, I can look back on it with real pride. I think that the club is in a better place now and I’m proud of the role that I’ve played in creating that environment.

"The memories that I have created both on and off the pitch will stay with me forever. This definitely isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon."

A lifelong West Ham supporter, Brynjarsdottir joined the club in January 2021 and quickly became a key figure, earning the Hammer of the Year award in 2023.

She balanced motherhood with her playing career, notably returning to action after the birth of her second child in 2024 and scoring in a League Cup win over Southampton.

Her time at the club was also marked by a series of memorable goals and the release of a ground-breaking documentary about her experience of pregnancy in professional football.

Manager Rehanne Skinner praised her passion, leadership, and commitment to the badge. "From the first moment I started working with Dagný, her passion for the club was evident," said Skinner.

"She knew what it meant to play for this badge - to represent the club to the best of her ability - and in doing so, giving her all in driving herself and the team forwards.

"Her desire to win and her leadership qualities have been a real asset to the team throughout her time at the club and has helped to lay the foundations for which this team will continue to build on moving forwards.

"On behalf of everyone,, I would like to thank Dagný for her contributions to West Ham United over the years and wish her and her family all the very best in her next chapter."
