‘I think’: Andros Townsend delivers his honest verdict on Jack Grealish leaving Manchester City for Everton

Owing to his limited opportunities under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Jack Grealish could now be set to join Everton on loan for the coming season.

Under David Moyes, Everton are about to embark on a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, a venue that befits a player of Jack Grealish’s talent.

Everton have already made some impressive signings this summer – Thierno Barry and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in particular should thrive under Moyes.

But signing Grealish would be the cherry on top – a player who has 39 caps for England and remains Man City’s record signing.

TBR Football revealed in June that Grealish would consider a move to Everton on loan, and the move is seemingly now gathering pace.

Andros Townsend gives his thoughts on Jack Grealish joining Everton on loan

With that in mind, former Everton winger Andros Townsend has now given his thoughts on Grealish potentially joining Moyes’ side whilst speaking on talkSPORT.

After hearing reports of Grealish being linked to the MLS, Townsend seemed more in favour of the England international joining a side like Everton, where he can prove a point to Thomas Tuchel.

Asked if he was in favour of Grealish joining Everton, Townsend replied: “Yes 100%. I’ve seen one or two things floating around maybe about in MLS or abroad somewhere, but I think Jack, he’s good enough to play for England – he needs to be back in that England squad.

“He was at his best at Aston Villa where he was the man, where everything went through him, so I’d love to see him back at a club where it’s his team and he can sort of roam where he wants, he can dribble whenever he gets the ball.

“So I think Everton does make sense for Jack at this time, if he does decide that he wants to leave Manchester City, which looks like it is likely.”

Grealish’s numbers have fallen off since leaving Aston Villa for Man City

Since joining Guardiola’s side in 2021, Grealish has amassed 157 appearances for City, winning three Premier League titles in the process.

However, on an individual basis, the 29-year-old’s goal and assist ratios have dropped.

Aston Villa 213 32 43

Manchester City 157 17 23

Of course, it should also be highlighted that Grealish’s numbers at City are during what should be his prime years – a lot of the winger’s appearances for Villa were whilst he was still developing.

And despite how talented the Englishman is, his move to the Etihad ultimately hasn’t gone to plan.

But after Everton showed interest in bringing John Stones back to the club this summer, they might still land an excellent City talent for the season.
