Former Man United goalkeeper David De Gea will return to Old Trafford this weekend.

Manchester United club captain has shown his excitement at being reunited with former teammate David De Gea ahead of the pre-season friendly vs Fiorentina.

United take on the Italian side at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon (12.45pm). It’s the side’s final pre-season game before the Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday, 17 Augusts (4.30pm kick-off).

The match will see more than 50,000 fans in attendance, with De Gea making his return to the club where he spent 12 years. He left United on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, and joined Fiorentina a year later.

Ahead of the match, De Gea has hinted at his excitement, writing: “See you soon,” to the official United X (formerly Twitter) account.

It seems Fernandes shares that excitement. The midfielder has shared a United post on his Instagram stories, and added the caption: “See you soon my friend @d_degeaofficial.”

Fernandes has also replied to De Geas’ latest post on Instagram with “Mi Portero”, which translates into English as “My goalkeeper.”

They’re not the only messages that Fernandes has sent De Gea about his return to Old Trafford. In a video shared on United’s official social media accounts, he says: “David my friend. Can’t wait to see you at The Snapdragon Cup. Hope you enjoy being back at Old Trafford to see your fans, to see your hours, to see your home.

“At the same time, I hope I score some goals against you and we enjoy the day together. See you soon my friend.”

The game against United will be Fiorentina’s third in England over the last few weeks. They fell to a 2-0 defeat against Leicester City last Sunday, a game in which De Gea was left on the bench.

They then drew 0-0 with Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night with the goalkeeper playing the full 90 minutes of the game.
