Report: Chelsea outcast attracts immediate interest after Enzo Maresca puts him up for sale

As the exits continue at Stamford Bridge, one out-of-favour forward could be next to depart following interest from Wolves.

Chelsea have been cashing in on players on the fringes, finalising a permanent deal for Lesley Ugochukwu to Burnley, and almost breaking even on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who has left for Everton.

Chelsea will be paid around £45m for Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu, as Scott Parker brings them both to Burnley 💰

The Blues have made over £200m from sales so far this summer:

Noni Madueke £48.5m

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall £28m

Joao Felix £26.2m (+ add-ons)

They have also confirmed a loan move for Marc Guiu to Sunderland, and now are receiving interest in another striker struggling to break into the team.

Wolves are interested in David Datro Fofana

David Datro Fofana is one of many forgotten players lingering in the Chelsea squad, and Enzo Maresca is open to letting Fofana leave.

According to The Times, Wolves have registered their interest in the 22-year-old, as they look to fill the void left by Matheus Cunha. They report: “There has been interest in forward David Datro Fofana, of Chelsea.”

Chelsea are stacked in the striker position, and have been looking to move on players not competing for minutes in that position. The arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap indicate a lack of trust in the forward options further down the pecking order, making the sale of the Frenchman an obvious choice.

Vitor Pereira needs more bodies in the forward areas and despite Fofana’s lack of success at Chelsea, he is still a promising young talent.

David Datro Fofana never found his feet at Chelsea

Fofana was signed in January 2023 for £8.4 million, never really establishing himself as a first-team option for Enzo Maresca.

He would go out on loan to Union Berlin and Burnley for the 2023/24 season, scoring four goals in 15 games under Vincent Kompany and just one in 12 games for the German side.

Chelsea pushed for Fofana to leave on a permanent deal last summer, without success. Last campaign, he went out on loan again, this time to Turkish side Goztepe, making just nine appearances.

It’s fair to say the Fofana purchase hasn’t paid off, but at just 22, he can still command a fee higher than what the Blues paid, and with Wolves backup striker Fabio Silva on the verge of an exit, there’s every chance a deal can be reached.
