Over the past two months or so, Real Betis have been playing transfer poker for Mateo Joseph. They received encouragement when he refused to join Leeds United’s pre-season tour, trying to force a move to the La Liga side.
Last month, El Desmarque reported the Whites are requesting €10-15m or willing to let the striker leave on a dry loan deal. Real Betis wanted Leeds to lower the price [to buy] or include a lower purchase option as part of loan deal.
Leeds United have reportedly been unhappy with lack of movement from Real Betis to try and close the operation for the 21-year-old.
Earlier today, Marca reported RCD Mallorca are trying to persuade him to pick them over Real Betis. Their efforts seem to be paying off as a source close to the negotiations told Cadena Ser that ‘he’s excited about playing in Spain’.
AS now report the Spain U21 international is ‘approaching’ the La Liga club.
It’s claimed the parties are optimistic of closing a loan deal without a purchase option, which is what Daniel Farke’s side wanted, in absence of a permanent transfer, if earlier claims are to be believed.
According to the report, Joseph’s arrival is linked to Cyle Larin’s departure from Mallorca.
The 30-year-old Canadian could leave soon considering the newspaper says the Leeds man is ‘one step away’ from joining Mallorca.
