Marvin Ducksch is hoping to show off his trademark goal celebration at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead after becoming Birmingham City’s ninth summer signing.

The 31-year-old has penned a three-year contract with Blues after four goal-laden years at Werder Bremen which saw him score 32 Bundesliga goals and register 23 assists.

Every goal two-cap Germany international Ducksch scored for Bremen was followed by the striker putting his hands to his head and sticking his tongue out.

It quickly became an iconic celebration in the Bundesliga and Arsenal star Kai Havertz copied the routine when he scored a goal last year.

Explaining it, Havertz said: "Recently I was in the national team and one of the guys, Marvin Ducksch, who plays for Werder Bremen.

"I was sitting next to him on the coach and before the game, he said to me, 'If you score today do my celebration.' I said, 'OK', I scored, and then I did the celebration [and then it just carried on]."

Ducksch was asked about his celebration in his first interview with Blues+ and became emotional as he opened up.

He said: “I had bad times as a teenager and my best friend always tried to make me smile because I was very, very down.

“With my celebration, it was the first time where I smiled. This is for me to give him this back.”

The smile was brought back to Ducksch’s face when he was asked about his battles with Blues defenders Christoph Klarer and Phil Neumann, both of whom he played against in Germany.

“They never had good results against me,” Ducksch laughed. “Now we change it and make it better together!”
