Manchester City have rejected Roma’s offer for Claudio Echeverri, despite the inclusion of a €30m+ obligation to buy.
That’s according to journalist César Luis Merlo, who reports on Roma’s rejected offer for the Argentine today.
He reports that Manchester City have rejected Roma’s offer for Echeverri, which was a one-year loan with a €33m obligation to buy next summer. It also included buy-back clause for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Whether that means a buy out clause to cancel the loan deal or re-purchase Echeverri in future isn’t clear. Either way, it has been rejected.
Echeverri has been linked with a move away from Manchester City this summer despite breaking through into Guardiola’s first-team picture at the end of last season.
He could seek regular playing time away from the Etihad and Roma have expressed an interest in him as they strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad this summer.
Indeed, Corriere dello Sport reported earlier today that Echeverri has rejected the idea of going on loan to Girona as he wanted to join Roma. The Italian side were waiting for a response from Manchester City on a loan deal with a €35-40m purchase clause.
That offer now appears to have been rejected, although Merlo insists that is not the end of the developing situation around Echeverri.
