Leeds United fans will not be happy with the news that has come out over the past week. The club are still in the market looking to add a few more new faces.
Graham Smyth revealed that Japanese international Ritsu Doan was a major target. But the club failed to submit an official offer, and now the player is off to Eintracht Frankfurt. It has also been revealed this week, that latest Derby County signing Bobby Clark turned down Leeds before joining the Championship side.

After the Villarreal game, Leeds boss Daniel Farke made it clear that the team was not ready. He especially pointed out that the club’s attack lacked depth, and could be a problem heading into the next season. Simon Rix of the Kaiser Chiefs has also spoken on Leeds’ recruitment this summer.
He also believes that there are some areas the club need to address in the transfer market before the season starts:
“So far, the business seems really good but it feels obvious where the gaps are. We – and the club – know where they are.” he said on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast.
“I think the most worrying area is cover for full-back. If either [Jayden] Bogle or [Gabriel] Gudmundsson get injured, it is Sam Byram in both places, which is a bit of a worry. Having someone else in that area, which is difficult to recruit for as a back-up, is something we need to happen.
“We were sceptical about this being an inexperienced team attempting arguably the most difficult job in football. They seem to be landing the targets but not spending loads of money.”
Which areas do Leeds need to address?
Like mentioned earlier, the club needs some additions in the attack. Leeds cannot start their first Premier League game with Lukas Nmecha and Joel Piroe as their strikers. The club need goals if they are to survive in the top flight, and Piroe and Nmecha are far from clinical players. Leeds may need to pay big money to find a solution.
Daniel Farke also mentioned that the club did not replace Manor Solomon, which is true. Going into the season with this core of wide players seems a bit underwhelming. The club need some serious quality in the position. The problem is getting such a player through the door with just days till the season opener.
