Sels nominated for Yachine Trophy
Award determines best performing ‘keeper in world football
Winner to be announced in September
Matz Sels has been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Yachine Trophy, part of the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony to determine the best performing goalkeeper in world football.
The Nottingham Forest stopper enjoyed an outstanding 2024/25 campaign, becoming the first ‘keeper in the Club’s rich history to win the Premier League’s Golden Glove award after keeping 13 clean sheets across a memorable season for the Reds.
The Belgium international played every minute of Forest’s Premier League season as we qualified for European competition for the first time in 30 seasons, achieved our highest league finish since 1994/95, and reached our first FA Cup semi-final since 1991 where Sels made crucial saves in our three penalty shoot-out victories on the way to the Wembley event.

Sels’ outstanding contribution to a historic season in Garibaldi has earned him international recognition with a nomination for the award named after the legendary former goalkeeper, Lev Yashin.
Sels recently signed a new contract with the Club, one of four key players to pen new terms at the City Ground this summer, following his standout performances last season.
The winner will be decided by a selection of football journalists at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on September 22, 2025.
All at the Club are delighted with Matz’s nomination and send their congratulations to our Belgium international.
