Manchester United get double injury boost ahead of Premier League opener vs Arsenal

Man United's players are continuing to put the hard yards in at Carrington ahead of this weekend's tussle with Fiorentina and their Premier League opener vs Arsenal.

Manchester United duo Andre Onana and Joshua Zirkzee have featured in team training ahead of Saturday's final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina and the Premier League opener against Arsenal.

Neither Onana nor Zirkzee have featured so far this pre-season due to injury issues, despite travelling to the United States for the club's pre-season tour.

Onana suffered a hamstring injury in the first week of pre-season training last month, meaning he has been in a race against the clock to try and get himself fit for the Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford a week on Sunday.

United published images of him training during the second week of their US tour, and sources said he had been "throwing himself around" in training but in non-contact drills.

Images shared by the club on Thursday showed him training with the rest of United's goalkeepers at Carrington, suggesting he could be in contention to play some part in this weekend's clash with Fiorentina. He last featured when the Reds were beaten 1-0 by the ASEAN All-Stars in a post-season tour friendly in May.

Zirkzee was also pictured training in the latest images published by the club, suggesting his recovery is also heading in the right direction. He was rushed back from a hamstring injury for last season's Europa League final but suffered a different injury three weeks ago.

After being left out of the squad that travelled to Stockholm for the pre-season opener against Leeds United last month, he was included in the squad that jetted off to the US, but he did not feature in any of United's three Premier League Summer Series outings.

The Dutchman has not featured in any capacity since his 19-minute cameo against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in May.

"I've got a small injury but it shouldn’t take too long to recover now," Zirkzee said during the tour. "I've got great physios working with me every day.

"It's not a serious problem. It's pre-season so unlike last season where I wanted to push myself to be back for the final, obviously now I just want to be there for the start of the season."
