Leeds United dodged a bullet after what’s happened with loanee in training - opinion

Despite embarking on another loan, Max Wober is still a Leeds United player, but Daniel Farke has avoided a problem.

With Wober’s exit this summer looking inevitable, there might have been some surprise as to why he was only loaned to Werder Bremen.

Well, this move was actually quite clever from the 49ers, as Wober’s loan benefits Leeds’ PSR with future developments considered.

It has been reported that there is an option to buy in the Austrian’s contract on top of this, as the Whites have maneuvered the deal well.

Now, Leeds’ decision looks even more sensible after what has happened to the defender.

Leeds United’s Max Wober suffers another knee injury for Werder Bremen

Something the 27-year-old struggled with during his tenure at Elland Road has been injuries, after playing only 28 times in the two seasons he played a part under Farke, even though he did contribute to Leeds’ Championship title success.

A chance back on loan in Germany can help him rediscover the form he had at Borussia Mochengladbach in 2023/24 after Wober was crucial to the German side, but his start at Bremen has taken a turn.

BILD are reporting that the on-loan Leeds defender has suffered another knee injury after a collision in training with teammate Patrice Covic.

Wober underwent surgery twice on his right knee last season in October and February, and now this new issue for the Austrian doesn’t bode well.

It’s said that the 27-year-old has expressed his ‘frustration’ with ‘extensive treatment’ needed, as you can’t help but feel distraught by Wober’s unfortunate luck on the sidelines.

But it’s clear that the right decision was made by the Whites hierarchy despite the defender’s dismay.

Leeds United dodged a bullet with Max Wober’s unreliability

Without even making an appearance for the Bundesliga side, it sums up Wober’s career that another injury has gotten in the way.

The centre-back has had harsh remarks on his time in West Yorkshire, with it being dubbed that Wober was the most ‘pointless transfer’ of all time.

Of course, his spells on the sidelines haven’t helped, but his injury proneness has shown that the Peacocks have dodged a bullet by loaning him out for the season, as he is an option that can’t be relied upon.

Fans were happy that Wober was leaving not only for his performances, but this factor also played its part.

It’s a shame to see the 27-year-old suffer the same setback that he’s worked hard to recover from, but from Leeds’ perspective, it’s proven that the correct choice was made this summer.
