Antonio Conte’s Napoli have knocked on the door of Chelsea as they look to sign French forward Christopher Nkunku.
According to a report from Calcio Napoli 24, Napoli are interested in acquiring the services of Christopher Nkunku, as their manager, Antonio Conte, is a massive admirer of the Chelsea forward. With him set to part ways with the Blues, the Partenopei see this as a great market opportunity and they have already enquired about him.
Nkunku made a name for himself while playing for RB Leipzig. On the back of his exceptional performances for the German club, Chelsea forked out £52 million to add him to their squad in the summer of 2023. Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan for both parties as they ended up picking up a serious injury, which kept him on the sidelines for the majority of his debut campaign.
While Christopher Nkunku was back fit for the 2024/25 season, he was already way down the pecking order and ended up having a rotational role in Enzo Maresca’s team. He still has four years left on his deal, and the Italian manager would love to have him in his squad, but they cannot guarantee him a prominent role.
As a result, Nkunku is ready to part ways with the West London club. The Frenchman is not ready to accept a rotational role as he looks to push for a spot in his national team for the World Cup next summer. The Blues are also ready to sell if their demands are met.
Napoli are interested in signing Nkunku
While multiple top clubs have been linked with Christopher Nkunku, Napoli have emerged as a potential destination in recent weeks. Conte is a massive admirer of the 27-year-old and believes he could help them take the next step. The Italian manager wanted to sign him at Tottenham back in the day, but things did not go according to plan.
Now the former Chelsea manager is keen on having him at Napoli, and he has asked the Serie A club to make a move for the French forward, who can feature anywhere in attack. Since the Italian champions do not have the best of relations with his agent, Pini Zahavi, they have initially knocked on Chelsea’s door to learn more about a potential transfer.
Napoli want to understand what kind of financial effort it would take to land him at the Naples-based club. While the Frenchman does not seem to be a priority target for them, there is a possibility of them making a move for him in the near future, as Conte has already given the green light to the move.
