Goodbye Alejandro: Man United 'enter into talks' with rival team over Garnacho transfer

Chelsea have reportedly opened initial discussions with Manchester United over a deal for Alejandro Garnacho, with the Argentina international keen to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old was an important player for the Red Devils during the 2024-25 campaign, making 58 appearances in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists in the process.

However, Garnacho fell out with Man United head coach Ruben Amorim following the Europa League final.

The forward was only a late substitute in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and he was critical of Amorim after the match, while his agent and brother also had some stern words for the Man United boss.

Garnacho was left out of Man United's final Premier League match of last season against Aston Villa, having been informed that he is free to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Chelsea 'open talks' over Garnacho move

Napoli had at least two offers for Garnacho rejected in January, while the attacker's former club Atletico Madrid have also been credited with an interest in his services.

However, it is understood that he is desperate to remain in the Premier League.

Aston Villa and Spurs have both been linked with the forward, but Chelsea are regarded as the clear favourites, while Garnacho is said to have made it clear to the Blues that he wants to join them.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea have now held initial talks over a move for Garnacho, who has not been involved in Man United's preparations for the 2025-26 campaign.

How much would Garnacho cost this summer?

At the start of the summer transfer window, it is understood that Man United valued Garnacho at £70m, as he has three years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford.

The price is now thought to be £40m, but Chelsea are allegedly unwilling to go above £30m.

Jacobs claims that Chelsea are of the opinion that Man United's price will drop should the Red Devils manage to get a deal for RB Leipzig centre-forward Benjamin Sesko over the line.

Garnacho has scored 26 goals and registered 22 assists in 144 appearances for Man United, including a record of 16 goals and 10 assists in 93 outings in the Premier League.

However, his best work comes in a wide area, and Man United will once again be operating in a 3-4-3 system during the 2025-26 campaign.
