Man City have just turned down a £29m attempt to sign 'incredible' midfielder - journalist

Manchester City are currently searching for ways to trim down Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The legendary coach made it clear towards the end of last season that he did not want to work with a big group throughout the 25/26 campaign, but offloading players has been harder than expected for the Manchester club.

Jack Grealish is wanted by Everton, but a move to Merseyside is difficult to get over the line. While James McAtee’s future is no clearer ever since Nottingham Forest had a £25m proposal turned down.

Another one of Guardiola’s midfielders is in high demand, and Man City have now turned down a £29m offer from a big European club, who are very keen to add the player to their squad.

Roma see bid rejected for Claudio Echeverri

It was reported last week that Roma are interested in signing Claudio Echeverri this summer as the Argentina star is expected to leave Man City on loan for the 25/26 season.

Roma officials travelled to England this week to see if they could get a deal done for the midfielder; however, it looks like a move will not be happening ahead of the new season.

According to the Argentine reporter Cesar Luis Merlo, Man City have rejected a loan offer from Roma for Echeverri, which included a £29m (€33m) mandatory purchase clause.

The Premier League club have no intention of letting the 19-year-old go permanently, and following this latest development, the Argentina star’s future remains unclear.

Man City know exactly what they want to do with Echeverri, but it is a plan the midfielder is not entirely happy with.

Man City want Claudio Echeverri to join Girona

In an ideal world, Man City want Echeverri to move to Girona, as being part of the City Football Group, it will be much easier to keep control of the 19-year-old star; however, it is believed that the midfielder is not very keen on the move to La Liga.

Echeverri wants to play with a club who are competing in Europe next season, as the Man City star believes that it will increase his chances of going to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

There is also a chance that Echeverri stays at Man City, but that seems unlikely given the goal the 19-year-old has now set for himself.

More offers are expected to arrive for the Argentina star before the summer transfer window shuts, and it will be interesting to see what route Man City plan out for a youngster Guardiola believes is “incredible”.
