Scott McTominay nominated for Ballon d'Or as Arsenal and England stars named

Former Manchester United star Scott McTominay has been nominated for the Ballon d'Or after a supreme season with Napoli. The midfielder lifted the Serie A title with the Italian side and played a key role in their success under Antonio Conte.

McTominay was surplus to requirements at United 12 months ago but went on to score 12 goals and provide a further six assists for Napoli in a dream season. It is his first-ever Ballon d'Or nomination. The 28-year-old is one of many stars with links to the Premier League who have been selected as part of the Ballon d'Or long-list, with the winner to be announced at the annual ceremony on September 22. Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and new signing Viktor Gyokeres are among those nominated. Rice's England team-mates Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Harry Kane are also included.

Liverpool's Premier League title winners Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister have been nominated, in addition to £116m signing Florian Wirtz, who starred for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. Manchester City's Erling Haaland is the final Premier League player named, although there is no place for last year's Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, who spent most of last season out with a serious knee injury.
