No one knows what the future holds for Texas quarterback Arch Manning, but his grandfather isn’t buying any of the NFL-related buzz — at least not yet.

Archie Manning, who played in the league for more than a decade in the 1970s and 1980s, spoke about his grandson in an interview with Texas Monthly that was recently published. The story is set to appear in the August 2025 edition of the magazine.

Asked about Arch’s NFL future potentially beginning in 2026, Archie dismissed that idea.

“Arch isn’t going to do that,” he said. “He’ll be at Texas.”

Some of that opinion seems to be due to the general opinion of the Manning family that Arch hasn’t earned the hype he’s been getting this offseason. He’s set to enter the 2025 campaign, his first year as a starter, as the leader in Heisman Trophy betting odds. That’s despite having just 2 starts and 95 pass attempts in his college career so far.

Archie spoke to Texas Montly about those Heisman expectations, too.

“People are saying he’s a Heisman candidate,” Archie said. “You’re not a Heisman Trophy candidate when you haven’t played but three games. It’s crazy.”

Regardless of whether or not Arch lives up to the hype, all eyes will be on him and the Longhorns this fall as they look to make it back to the College Football Playoff. It starts early, too, with a massive Week 1 showdown against Ohio State slated for Aug. 30.
