Leeds United turned down for Championship transfer as 49ers close in on next move

Mehdi Taremi's future appears to lie away from Inter Milan with the striker absent from pre-season training amid reports linking him with a move to Leeds United.

Last month, Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport revealed the 33-year-old has verbal agreement between his agents and Inter to leave the Italian club this summer. Fulham and West Ham United have also been linked with Taremi, while Inter are reportedly seeking a minimum of £7m for the Iranian striker.

On Thursday, the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, has offered a fresh update on Taremi, reporting that Leeds have 'overwhelmed' rival English clubs in the race for his signature. A move to Elland Road is reportedly 'close' following a recent enquiry.

Taremi is said to be keen to stay in Europe and has turned down offers from Brazil. Although he remains under contract with Inter for another two years, the newspaper suggests the club may not profit from his departure as there is a 'mutual willingness' to facilitate a move this summer.

With that said, Leeds could secure a deal for the Iranian at little-to-no cost and a loan move has reportedly not been ruled out.

"I think John Eustace knows that I'm at a point where I want to prove people wrong, and I'm hungry to play football again, especially being back in the UK," Clark said upon signing for the Rams.

"It's a great league and I just want to kick on here. Once I found out Derby were interested, I had a chance to speak with the manager and the staff. With his goals and the way he is aligned with me, it seemed right."
