Newcastle star Isak suffers another snub after training alone

Newcastle forward Alexander Isak has suffered another snub after being told to train alone amid a summer-long transfer saga.

Swedish goal-scorer Isak was not shortlisted for the prestigious Ballon D'Or award, which recognises the best footballer on the planet, despite scoring more league goals than Manchester City's Erling Haaland last season - who is among the nominees.

Ballon D'Or nominees were announced on Thursday (August 7) with a surprise nomination for one-time Newcastle transfer target Scott McTominay after leading Napoli to the league title in Italy.

Forwards like Serhou Guirassy (Dortmund) and Lautaro Martinez (Inter) were preferred to Isak on the 30-strong list.

In March, following Newcastle's League Cup win, Isak was priced at 33/1 with some bookmakers to win the golden trophy, with Dan Burn also priced up to win the prestigious gong, although a rank outsider at 100/1.

It comes in a turbulent summer for Isak and Newcastle as the Carabao Cup winner was instructed to train alone by manager Eddie Howe on Wednesday (August 6) because of concerns about his conduct amid interest from Liverpool.

Isak also played no part in a family bonding day, with Howe having invited partners and children of the players to spend the afternoon at the club's training ground.

It's not clear whether he'll be reintegrated ahead of this weekend's friendlies against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid at St James' Park.

Howe is next due to speak to the media after Friday night's game.

The Ballon D'Or, organised by French outlet L'Equipe, will be awarded at a ceremony in Paris on September 22.
