Emi Martinez could be named the best goalkeeper in world football for the third year running after being nominated for the 2025 Yashin Trophy.
The Villa shot-stopper kept nine clean sheets in 37 Premier League games last season as the club narrowly missed out on Champions League football, finishing sixth.
The prestigious award, presented by France Football magazine, is given to the best-performing goalkeeper of the previous season, according to football journalists, at the Ballon d'Or award ceremony.
Named after legendary Soviet Union number one Lev Yashin, Martinez is the only two-time recipient since the award's inception in 2019, winning it back-to-back in 2023 and 2024.
Alongside the Argentine number one, also nominated this year are Alisson Becker (Liverpool and Brazil), Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal and Morocco), Lucas Chevalier (Lille and France), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid and Belgium), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG and Italy), Jan Oblak (Atlético Madrid and Slovenia), David Raya (Arsenal and Spain), Matz Sels (Nottingham Forest and Belgium) and Yann Sommer (Internazionale and Switzerland).
The winner will be announced during the Ballon d'Or ceremony in Paris on September 22.
Awards for the club of the Year, coach of the year (Johan Cruyff Trophy) and best male and female under-21 players (Kopa Trophy) will also be handed out.
The flagship Ballon d'Or award for the world player of the year will be decided by a select committee of journalists from France Football and L'Equipe from a list of 30 names.
Once the lists are published, a single football journalist from each of the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations will cast a vote for their top 10 players, with points, from 15 to one, awarded to each player in the list in descending order. The player to score the highest amount of points from the compiled rankings is handed the award. The nominees are...
