Chelsea fans come up with‘perfect’ transfer solution after Levi Colwill injury scare

Chelsea fans are facing an anxious wait to hear the severity of Levi Colwill’s injury.

Blues centre-back Levi Colwill, 22, was a key player in Enzo Maresca‘s squad last season. Therefore, it’s alarming to hear that the England international has picked up an injury during the first week of the club’s pre-season.

Speaking on Thursday, Maresca confirmed Colwill’s injury scare, admitting the club are now waiting to find out the severity of the problem. The Chelsea head coach said: “We had a problem the last two days with Levi Colwill. We don’t know how long he’s going to be out, so for us we’ll see. Hopefully, not too long, but for sure it’s a problem for us.”

In fairness, Maresca didn’t provide any detail on Colwill’s injury, so it would be guesswork to speculate how long he could be absent for, even if the manager’s body language looked concerning.

Journalist Kieran Gill reports via X that Chelsea are now awaiting the results of a scan on an injury Colwill sustained during Monday’s training session.

We hope there will be some positive news about the Blues defender imminently. However, pessimistic supporters have come up with a transfer solution for the club to consider if Colwill is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Chelsea fans suggest Marc Guehi signing after Levi Colwill scare

According to many Chelsea fans on social media, they should now look into signing Crystal Palace and England centre-half Marc Guehi, 25, this summer.

Here are Blues supporters on X suggesting a move to re-sign their former academy graduate.

One fan wrote: “If Colwill is injured for a lengthy period of time, I would go in for Guehi. Can slip straight in, knows the Prem and knows Chelsea. It will be the easiest transition, and with our buyback clause, it could also come at a decent price. He might not be the “needle” mover some want, but he is reliable and a leader.”

“Levi Colwill injured. The perfect man to replace him, Marc Guehi. Bring!” another posted.

One supporter claimed: “Depending on the results of Colwill’s injury, it would not surprise me if we went back in for Marc Guehi. Sales are going well, so we have the money.”

“We should just go and get Guehi, that’s if Colwill is out for a long period of time,” another said.

Guehi, who developed in the Chelsea academy, played two first-team games for the Blues before they sold him to Palace four years ago. Could the central defender now make a remarkable return to West London?

Marc Guehi links with Chelsea this summer

In fairness, the Chelsea fanbase haven’t plucked Guehi’s name out of thin air because he’s been linked with a possible transfer move recently, especially as he’s entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

Last month, Chelsea contacted Guehi’s agents because he’s expected to be on the move this summer.

Apparently, Guehi could be available for just £40m, which feels like it could be great value for money when it comes to a proven Premier League star.

Liverpool would be Guehi’s preferred next club, so Chelsea may need to ramp up their interest if they are desperate to sign him. Let’s wait and see if the Colwill news has any sort of impact on things this summer.
