Manchester United's players train at Carrington.

Manchester United's players are gearing up for the start of the new Premier League season.

Manchester United will be targeting a winning conclusion to their pre-season preparations when they face Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

returned to more familiar surroundings earlier this week after spending just under a fortnight in the United States for their pre-season tour. The US trip proved to he highly successful both on and off the field.

United participated in the Premier League Summer Series and brought the trophy home with them after victories over West Ham United (2-1) and Bournemouth (4-1) before drawing with Everton (2-2).

Head coach will have been pleased with what he saw from his players, particularly in the two aforementioned victories, with their performances really sharp and encouraging.

But with just over a week to go until their opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford, Amorim, his coaching staff and the players and busy putting the hard yards in on the Carrington training pitches. With that said, here are five things MEN Sport spotted from their latest session:

Goalkeeper Andre Onana and attacker Joshua Zirkzee both featured in team training after so far playing no part in United's pre-season preparations. Onana has been absent because of a hamstring injury and Zirkzee has been missing because of a small injury issue. They both went on the tour of the US but played no part in any of the three friendlies United played. (Image: Zohaib Alam - MUFC/Manchester United via Getty Images.) 1 of 5

Matheus Cunha has enjoyed a solid first pre-season at United thus far, featuring in three of their opening four friendlies. He is likely to sample his first taste of Old Trafford as a player United player this weekend, and he will be hoping to start. In Wednesday's training session, Amorim was spotted putting his arm around his shoulder and having a word in his ear. The details of the conversation are, of course, unknown. For some, James Scanlon's omission from United's squad for the tour of the US was a bit of a surprise. He is already a senior international for Gibraltar and has been making good progress in United's academy. The attacker made the bench for United's Europa League win over Real Sociedad at Old Trafford back in March. He was involved in first-team training on Wednesday, but it remains to be seen if he will depart on loan before the transfer window closes.
