Leeds have identified a new forward addition as Mateo Joseph prepares to leave.

Joseph was restricted to 11 starts in the Championship last season, notching three goals and three assists in 39 total appearances.

The 21-year-old wants to leave Elland Road this summer, he has made that desire clear in the offseason and was missed out on the pre-season tour of Germany as a result.

The Spanish Under-21 is now closing in on an exit as Daniel Farke’s side gets set for their return to the Premier League.

Joseph set to leave Leeds, Liverpool attacker wanted

If Joseph is allowed to leave, then the 49ers Enterprises need to source a replacement for the Whites.

The Athletic’s Beren Cross claimed on 7 August that the Whites are set to loan Joseph to Mallorca, with no buy option included in the deal.

He stated that £20million-rated Liverpool attacker Ben Doak is one of the wingers that Farke’s side are looking at.

Doak would be a brilliant signing for Leeds

Doak is highly-rated on Merseyside, but there is one problem for the Scotland international, he is behind Mohamed Salah in the pecking order at Anfield.

That is the reason that Arne Slot’s side are willing to let him depart on a permanent deal if the right offer comes along, it is nothing to do with his quality.

Doak v Joseph in the second tier last season.

He has already shown his ability, as he notched three goals and seven assists in the Championship last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

Whether he can step up to the top-flight remains to be seen, but he has proven that he has sufficient end product, and his pace is devastating, so he could prove to be a problem for defences.

Leeds need to take gambles like that to have any chance of staying in the division, Doak would be a risk, but it would be a calculated one for the LS11 outfit, rather than a reckless one.

The gap between the newly-promoted sides and the established order is at an all-time high, so the Peacocks need whatever advantage they can get in order to have any chance of beating the odds.
