Exclusive: Chelsea 'appealed' by the chance to sell popular player this summer despite 2025 turnaround

Player sales have become the real talking point of Chelsea’s transfer window in recent days, with significant money being made from players who were very much out of the plans.

Armando Broja and Lesley Ugochukwu have both made moves to Burnley, with the Blues banking around £45m off those deals.

Chelsea were desperate to sell Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall too, with a desire to meet the criteria laid out by UEFA when they were sanctioned.

The Blues need to raise funds in order to register their new signings for the Champions League, meaning a few more individuals could be out of the door this month.

Chelsea ‘appealed’ by prospect of selling Trevoh Chalobah

Players sold who have come through the academy offer pure profit on the books, and one player who would meet that criteria is Trevoh Chalobah.

Reports had stated that Chelsea chiefs had changed their mind on Chalobah, after making desperate moves to get rid of him permanently 12 months ago.

Despite this, Graeme Bailey has exclusively told The Chelsea Chronicle that the idea of selling the defender remains tempting for the Blues with less than two weeks of the transfer window again.

He said: “We thought Chalobah was out the door and he’s sort of played himself into contention in Chalobah. But I think the thing with Chalobah is it’s such pure profit if you did sell him that I think his sale is quite appealing to the club in a lot of ways.”

Potential defensive injury problems at Chelsea

While Chalobah is by no means a guaranteed starter at Stamford Bridge, he may see plenty of minutes come his way in the opening weeks of the season now.

Enzo Maresca reported that Levi Colwill had suffered an injury straight after the Blues had returned to pre-season training, and the diagnosis did not sound great.

Chelsea are awaiting the results of a scan, however could be set to be missing arguably their best centre-back for the start of the season.

Wesley Fofana is back in training, although it remains to be seen if he will be available for the Crystal Palace game, meaning Chalobah could be in action a lot in the opening weeks of the campaign.
