Leeds United 'express' transfer interest in Liverpool starlet as Mateo Joseph nears loan exit

Liverpool winger Ben Doak has emerged as a transfer target for Leeds United. A report in The Athletic has claimed the Whites have expressed an interest in the 19-year-old.

Doak spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough. He was one of their standout performers in the first half of the campaign, wowing fans with his dribbling prowess and direct style of play.

But the Scotland international has not played a competitive match since January. He underwent thigh surgery in March before returning to Liverpool to undergo his rehabilitation.

It is believed the Premier League champions rejected offers around £20million for Doak in January. The Athletic say the Reds value him around the same amount now and are happy to retain him as a squad option unless their valuation is met.

The Whites are keen to strengthen their wing options before the big kick-off. Boss Daniel Farke expressed his concern over their attacking firepower following Saturday's friendly with Villarreal, pointing out that they have to replace Manor Solomon following his stellar loan spell in their title-winning campaign.

Meanwhile, United are said to be finalising a loan deal with La Liga outfit Mallorca for Mateo Joseph. The Athletic report that Spanish Under-21 international Joseph has agreed to the move and is waiting to get the green light from the Whites. Joseph has made it clear he wants to return to his homeland, declining to travel to Sweden or Germany with the squad for pre-season preparation in July. Real Betis and Girona were also among the clubs interested in Joseph, who still has three years left to run on his United deal.
