Newcastle United are set to miss out on the RB Leipzig striker to Manchester United.
Benjamin Sesko is heading to Manchester United for a medical after snubbing a St James’ Park switch.
Newcastle United made the first move last week, tabling a bid worth around £65million. This was swiftly rejected but the Magpies returned with a second offer for the Slovenian international.
Toon chiefs pushed for a breakthrough to help solve the ongoing striker crisis. Callum Wilson left last month as a free agent and Alexander Isak is trying to force an exit.
Newcastle United’s striker stance
Newcastle maintained a hardball stance on Isak’s future amid intense speculation last season. This was echoed heading into the window - even when the Swede announced his desire to leave.
However, once Isak bailed on the club’s pre-season tour, the Magpies drafted a contingency plan. While remaining steadfast on the price tag, Newcastle began working on potential replacements.
Sesko was viewed as the No.1 target and, as mentioned, Newcastle pushed to get the deal done. But there were always concerns that the 22-year-old would favour Old Trafford if Man United entered the race.

Eddie Howe has stressed Newcastle are trying to bolster their ranks before the Premier League starts. He said: "We are looking at the best players we can get. We are only looking at the best we can get, I see all situations open and available to us.
"I feel that is the only way we are going to get where we want to go, which is to maximise quality over quantity. That is the way it has always been, the way we work, we try to improve, we have done it pretty well to this point.
"It has been a challenging summer as you know. We have missed out on loads of different targets for different reasons. But we are still very competitive and we are still in there trying to bring good players to the club, that won't change until the window shuts."
